CEO, Co-Founder

2021 - Present

Leading the development and growth of a software and research company. Focused on providing products and services that ensure renewable/sustainable technology (geothermal energy) has a positive and widespread impact for those experiencing extreme climates and housing/energy issues.

Umny is developing machine learning software that represents key environmental variables (such as subsurface properties) and energy systems (like geo-exchange) with greater accuracy and speed.

CTO

2020-2021

Leading research and product development of novel geo-exchange technology to deliver renewable thermal energy across Canada.

Marketing Director

2020-2021

Designing and implementing marketing and communication strategies. Sharing information, and developing sales process for new technologies. Graphic design, illustration, and web development.

Owner-Operator

2020

Started a regenerative agriculture business. Created business and marketing strategy. Generated sales, and managed inventory and delivery to achieve a successful business within the first few months of operation. Increased entrepreneurial skills of flexibility, adaptation, establishing a resilient brand, and understanding local markets.

Engineering Consultant

2019

Worked on design and consulting projects focusing on renewable energy systems (such as geothermal) and retrofits.

  • Utilized computational fluid dynamics to deliver performance projections and simulations of geo-exchange systems
  • Developed surrogate building load profile models with MATLAB programming
  • Delivered technical information for engineering reports

Researcher

2018-2020

I used my Master’s in Mechanical Engineering to design a new in-ground heat exchanger to provide clean energy, while also keeping permafrost frozen, with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

As a RA, I researched and developed better methods to design for women’s issues and updated courseware, grading metrics and instruction manuals in the cornerstone engineering design course for Mechanical and Industrial engineering students.

Teacher

2017-2019

I worked as a teaching assistant for three undergraduate courses. Marking assignments, and tests. Creating teaching information, and leading labs to train students in various software and engineering skills. Also offering office hours and mentoring students through their coursework. I was awarded my University’s Teaching Award for my work as a TA.

2nd year course “Introduction to Engineering Design”:
• philosophy of design
• inclusive design, ergonomics, and human factors
• report writing, technical communication, professional formatting and presentation

1st year course “Engineering Graphical Communications”:
• the SolidWorks software
• manual drafting
• drafting, and technical drawings

4th year course “Manufacturing System Control”:
• teaching automation control logic system design
• wiring and testing pneumatic and electronic-pneumatic equipment
• PLC programming and Boolean Algebra
• ANSI circuit symbology

Freelance Designer

Self-Employed

2016-2019

Worked as a freelance graphic designer and marketing manager. Web development, logo and advertisement design, photography and illustration, content writing and marketing strategist. Also helped clean tech startups develop their marketing, communications, and business plans.

Manufacturing

2012, 2014

Where my love for mechanical engineering began. I worked as an assembly line associate, building parts for Honda vehicles. I spent my days calculating the speed of my processes, learning how to fix the robots and machines on my own, and hanging out as much as I could with tool and dye people and engineers.

Early Entrepreneur

Self-Employed

Where my love for being an entrepreneur began. I love to build businesses: from starting a tortilla making and delivery service with my brother when I was a kid, to selling my art for commissions through elementary and high school, to teaching dance class and sewing. I’ve always found ways to make my own way.
